Ajmal’s Journey with Physical Therapy
At just 17 years old, Ajmal Abdullahi has already faced more challenges than many experience in a lifetime. A Somali refugee, Ajmal started receiving care from Hope Speaks’ charity work in Uganda at Kisenyi outreach center in August 2024. She was seeking help for weakness in her right arm and leg.
When she began therapy, even the simplest movements were difficult—she couldn’t bear weight on her right leg without the support of a locked knee brace.
But Ajmal refused to let these obstacles define her future. With determination, consistent home exercises, and regular therapy attendance, she has made extraordinary progress.
Today, Ajmal navigates daily life at home without the brace, needing it only for long distances. Each step she takes is a testament to her resilience and the transformative power of compassionate care from those who volunteer in Uganda.
Ajmal’s journey isn’t over yet. Her goal is to walk freely and unassisted, leaving the knee brace behind for good. With her unwavering spirit and the continued support from physical therapy charity organizations like Hope Speaks, we believe she’ll achieve it.
