Speech Therapy | Auditory Processing Disorders | Uganda
Children with disabilities in Uganda are often hidden away from society, abused, and sometimes even killed. Across Africa, as is the case in many developing countries, there is a significant lack of information and education about disabilities. Our work focuses on providing speech therapy; advocating; educating; and training parents, organizations, and up-and-coming speech therapists working with children with communication challenges. Through these trainings, we equip Ugandans with the knowledge and skills they need to encourage speech and language development for their children.
Many children with special needs never receive the services they need to develop skills for full, independent living.
Children with special needs have no way to speak up for themselves and change people’s perceptions.
Educating people about disabilities leads to better understanding and changes the stigma. When people know more, they can do more to advocate on behalf of those who have no rights.
speech therapy and education about disabilities help individuals with special needs to speak up for themselves and on behalf of others with disabilities so they can change perceptions.
Shift from what they can’t do to what they can do.
