A Letter From Ben & Kari David
After much prayer and discernment, our family will be relocating to Kenya, in mid-July. At the same time, Hope Speaks is navigating a significant financial challenge that has created an urgent funding gap.
Before we explain either update, we want to reassure you that Hope Speaks Uganda is continuing strong. We remain fully committed to the mission and will continue providing leadership and oversight, while our trusted Ugandan team continues leading the ministry's day-to-day operations.
Why the move?
For several years, we have been navigating our children's educational needs and praying for the right environment where they could receive the support they need while continuing to thrive. Recently, all three of our children were accepted to a Christian international school in Kenya with a strong learning support department, and we believe God has clearly opened this door for our family.
At the same time, Kenya has been on our hearts for Hope Speaks for many years. As we have prayed through this transition, we have sensed God opening new opportunities while also strengthening the work already happening in Uganda. We believe this move will not only provide important support for our children, but also create a strategic base from which we can strengthen partnerships, support the ministry in Uganda, and pursue the broader vision God has given Hope Speaks in East Africa.
While our home base is changing, our commitment to Hope Speaks is not. We are not stepping away from leadership, and the ministry is not closing. We will continue providing strategic leadership, mentorship, oversight, fundraising support, and partnership development. Over the past several years, we have intentionally strengthened systems and developed local leadership, and we have deep confidence in the incredible Ugandan team leading the day-to-day work.
Although we will be living in Kenya, we will remain closely connected to Uganda. We are only a short flight from Kampala, and we plan to return regularly, stay actively engaged with the ministry, and continue investing in the team and families we care so deeply about.
What are the financial challenges?
At the same time, we want to be honest that this is a financially urgent season for Hope Speaks.
The past two years have brought challenges that have significantly impacted our income and sustainability. Volunteer teams have decreased, particularly due to the impact of Ebola outbreaks in Uganda. We have also experienced shifts in global funding and the loss of private school partnerships that previously provided important in-country income.
These challenges have created a financial gap that we need to address in the coming months. As we move forward, your partnership is more important than ever. If Hope Speaks has impacted your life or if you believe in the work God is doing through this ministry, would you prayerfully consider making a gift today?
How can I help?
Offer your prayers with us for:
- A smooth transition for our family as we move and help our children settle into a new school and community.
- Wisdom, strength, and unity for the Hope Speaks Uganda team.
- God's continued guidance and provision for the future of Hope Speaks.
Consider donating to help us fill the financial gap:
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and faithful partnership over the years. We are grateful for each of you and excited to see what God has ahead.
With gratitude,
Ben & Kari David
